Transportation sector gains more than 16,000 jobs in November

road-construction-192894_640The transportation sector gained 16,700 jobs in November 2014 according to statistics released by the Department of Labor.

According to the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 4,684,600 transportation jobs in November, compared to 4,667,900 in October.

The increase in transportation jobs was part of an increase of 321,000 overall jobs in November that resulted in the U.S. unemployment rate remaining steady at 5.8 percent.

The transportation sector that saw the highest employment increase was couriers and messengers, which gained 4,700 jobs in November. The sector had 586,700 jobs in November, up from 582,000 in October.

The pipeline transportation industry saw the biggest drop in employment, losing 100 jobs in the month of November. The category had 29,700 jobs in November, down from 29,800 in October.
