Toll roads in Richmond, Va., to get electronic upgrade

Richmond, Virginia, is preparing to upgrade its toll roads with the help of TransCore traffic management company.

TransCore says it will equip the Downtown Expressway, Powhite Parkway and the Boulevard Bridge with its Infinity Digital Lane System. The system will allow the Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority to operate any lane in cash, mixed or all-electronic tolling mode without any software or hardware changes, the company says.

TransCore will also maintain the system and remotely monitor all the Infinity lanes from its national Maintenance Monitoring Center.

TransCore has worked with the transportation authority on upgrading its Powhite Parkway in 2008.
