Tadano GR-1000XLL-4Tadano has redesigned three of its GR rough-terrain cranes with more comfortable cabs, new engines and more lifting capacity.
The series, for the 75- to 100-ton lifting class, was first launched in 2011 in North America and is composed of models GR-1000XLL-4, GR-1000XL-4 and GR-800XL-4.
The new models give operators better visibility of the remodeled cab’s instrument panel, and a 20-degree cab tilt function reduces operator fatigue. A new 10.4-inch touchscreen provides access to crane work information and operation settings, and it can be operated while wearing gloves.
Cameras have been provided as standard on the winch drum to monitor the wire rope when the crane is operating and on the right front and rear of the crane for visibility while driving. Tadano added Clearance Sonar that automatically alerts operators with buzzer and flashing light when there are obstacles directly behind the crane.
The cranes feature six-speed transmissions and are powered by a 280-horsepower Cummins engine that is compliant with Tier 4 Final and European Union Stage V emissions regulations. The crane automatically stops the hydraulic pump when the crane is idle for a period of time, to save fuel. Other fuel-saving, emissions- and noise-reducing features include the company’s Fuel Monitoring System, Eco-Mode and Positive Control.
The Hello-Net telematics monitors the cranes’ operation status, location and maintenance information on a website, and Hello-Data Link delivers crane information to mobile devices.
GR-1000XLL-4 and GR-1000XL-4
Tadano GR-1000XL-4The GR-1000XLL-4 features a boom of 167.3 feet – 13.1 feet longer than its predecessor, the GR-1000XL-3. It has a max lift height of 224.1 feet with jib. Gross vehicle weight is 24,700 pounds.

The GR-1000XL-4’s boom is 154.3 feet long. It has a max lift height of 211.3 feet. Gross vehicle weight is 20,100 pounds.
Both have lifting capacities of 100 tons. They are the first of the company’s cranes equipped with Tadano’s new Smart Counterweight system, enabling the operator to use two counterweight positions to increase lifting capacity, the company says. The cranes also have the company’s Smart Chart, which is designed to maximize performance.
GR-800XL-4
Tadano GR-800XL-4The GR-800XL’s lift capacity is 80 tons and has a boom of 154.2 feet long. It has a max lift height of 211.3 feet with jib. Gross vehicle weight is 99,800 pounds for easier transport. Tadano says the model is “one of the most versatile and well-balanced rough terrain cranes in the industry.”
