Smith-Midland, out of Midland, Virginia, says it won a $9 million contract to supply and install up to 245,000 linear feet of J-J Hooks precast safety barrier on a Virginia highway project.

The firm contracted for the work with FAM Construction, a partnership of Ferrovial Agroman US and Allan Myers, the lead construction firm on the 22.5-mile long I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes project in northern Virginia.

The project will construct two express lanes alongside three regular lanes from I-495 to Route 29 in Gainesville, with space in the median reserved for future transit projects. The project also involves 4,000 park-and-ride spaces, safety and operational improvements at key interchanges and bicycle and pedestrian upgrades.

“This is the largest J-J Hooks order in the history of Smith-Midland,” said Matthew Smith, Smith-Midland’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “We are proud to be part of the team that will help alleviate the congestion on this critical transportation corridor.”

Smith-Midland says it will deliver 40,000 linear feet of barrier during the first quarter, installing more than a half-mile of barrier each night. Final delivery of the order is expected in the third quarter.
