Photo by NYSDOTThe New York State Department of Transportation has completed 80 of 100 bridges set to be replaced throughout the state as part of the $542 million Empire Bridge Program.
The other 20 bridges are under construction, NYSDOT reports.
“Across New York, we are investing in transportation infrastructure, making vulnerable and aging bridges stronger and more resilient against severe weather,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. “This milestone makes our transportation network in every corner of this state safer and more reliable for New Yorkers and more durable against anything Mother Nature throws our way.”
The Route 28 bridge over Multanner Creek in Fairfield, New York, was the 80th project to be completed, the NYSDOT reports. Some minor work remains on the $1.5 million bridge replacement, which began in May. The new bridge allows more water to flow under the bridge to prevent flooding, and it has pedestrian walkways.
