Conexpo 08 – Booth 15927 – South Hall Perkins Engines hikes power in top of the range engine

Perkins Engines is demonstrating its 1106D-E66TA engine at Conexpo 08.  The 1106D-E66TA is a six cylinder unit that delivers up to 186 kW (250 bhp) and over 1000 Nm (770 lb-ft) of torque, providing greater productivity through an improved power to weight ratio.

The engine offers improved performance all round including a 29 per cent increase in power over the Tier 2/Stage II product, a hike of 41 per cent in available torque, thanks largely to its increased displacement of 6.6 litres, new high pressure, common rail fuel system, reworked turbocharger geometry and refinements to the manifold and combustion areas.

The 1106D-E66TA also utilises proven components of Caterpillar ACERT technology, which provides excellent fuel economy and low heat rejection, allowing customers to use a more compact cooling group. In terms of refinement the unit has been designed to take noise out at the source. Engine sound levels have been reduced by up to 5dB(A) giving a smooth noise signature across the speed range. Indeed at full load the 1106D-E66TA operates at under 88dB(A).

Importantly the boost in engine and emissions performance has not come at the expense of operating costs. Fuel economy remains on a par with Tier 2/Stage II product, 500-hour service intervals are maintained and comprehensive warranty cover extends to three years on major components. The global acceptability of the engine has been enhanced, as it is tolerant to kerosene, aviation fuel and 5% bio fuels (RME) without modification, although options are available to meet local market needs.

The availability of a large range of build options enables the product to be tailored to specific customer needs with various options on offer, including a new SAE B PTO, that provides up to 63 kW (85 hp).
