The 85-ton SK850LC-11 is KOBELCO’s largest conventional excavator, built to deliver the power, efficiency and performance required to tackle heavy civil, quarry and mass excavation jobs.
The excavator gets its muscle from a 512-horsepower Isuzu Tier 4 Final engine. When equipped with the standard 11-foot 10-inch arm, the SK850LC-11 has a bucket digging force of 90,600 pounds, an arm digging force of 69,900 pounds and a lifting capacity of 66,010 pounds.
“This machine is designed to go into the rock and be abused and used,” says Mike Hickerson, Mid-Atlantic district business manager for KOBELCO.

00:00:00:00 - 00:00:11:06
Mike Hickerson
Today we're standing here with the beast. The SK, a 50-11. All right. She's a little bitty machine. Only 190,000 pounds.
00:00:11:08 - 00:00:35:10
Mike Hickerson
As you can see, she's equipped with a 512 horsepower ESAs power plant. Okay. The machine set up and is digging format. It's going to be 146 wide. All right. But we're able to pull a few bolts out. We're able to draw in. Then draws her down to 126 okay. For most states it's going to require you to drop the counterweight the end to drop the the stick in the bucket to get you down to where it's truck able.
00:00:35:11 - 00:00:52:27
Mike Hickerson
This unit does not have counterweight removal on it, but that is a factory option. Just not on this model. All right. So you've got a 36 inch pad. The it does run a double growler pad. It is running a heavy undercarriage. Now this machine is going into utility work. It's already sold machinery. Sold it to a mouse. Utilities.
00:00:52:27 - 00:01:08:02
Mike Hickerson
You see that on the side of the machine. And it's going to go and start laying pipe working in a trench box. So it's running just under a four yard bucket because it's going to be doing utility work. So depending on your application, depending on the weight of the material, you're going to run a much larger bucket than than what's on here today.
00:01:08:03 - 00:01:28:00
Mike Hickerson
But looking at this beast, you can see that it comes standard the with the rock guards. We love to protect our stick. This machine is designed to go into the rock and to be abused and and used. Okay. And so the she comes equipped with the rod guards. But the exciting thing is, when we look at all the plumbing that everything on this machine is standard.
00:01:28:01 - 00:01:54:09
Mike Hickerson
Okay. So the you can see that knuckle right there on your H link pin that is for kalo. So she has an on load on board scale okay. So that she can wave. You set it up the get your ballpark not good for legal trade but it'll get you close right. The then you can see the plumbing. So this machine comes standard from the factory with one way two way hydraulics also comes standard with rotation.
00:01:54:11 - 00:02:14:10
Mike Hickerson
Okay. So that's standard. That's not an option. That is a standard feature. So moving around to the front side of the stick the you can see our ultra heavy duty H link. Everything's really good and heavy. But you also notice there's two lines. This machine comes from the factory. Quick hits ready okay. Switches in the cab. The electronics are there.
00:02:14:14 - 00:02:33:19
Mike Hickerson
The. All we need to do is to add the the manifold and the rubber hoses and the coupler, and you're ready to go. All right. From the factory. That is standard. That's just part of the quality that we're bringing to the that we're bringing to play with this machine. Again you can see the other side had your return to tank.
00:02:33:22 - 00:02:47:21
Mike Hickerson
All right. This side's got your rotation line and your one way, two way line. That's all standard on there moving around. One of the things that really excites me is, is the fact that you never know what they're going to hide on this machine.
00:02:47:24 - 00:02:53:10
Mike Hickerson
But she comes on board with an on board electric greasing system.
00:02:53:13 - 00:03:13:09
Mike Hickerson
So you've got a hose reel in there. You've got a five gallon bucket of Greece on there. There's no reason why your operators don't keep this machine greased. Okay. And that's standard. Not an option. It's standard. It's just what we do. Heavy duty undercarriage. You can see the the weight, the durability that's built in here. Your large boom cylinders, lots of quality.
00:03:13:10 - 00:03:32:14
Mike Hickerson
Lots of things. Look at the thickness of that steel. Okay, let's carry it all the way through. Catwalks. Catwalks are standard. Again, not an option. It's just part of the safety cable Co the we're all about safety. When you look at that cab you see that has a certified RoPS on it. But you say that's industry. Does that okay.
00:03:32:17 - 00:03:53:11
Mike Hickerson
Has that exoskeleton for extra added strength also comes up on the top with a level two. That's standard cable safety. That's what we do. Okay. So you got flops RoPS certified. You've got catwalks. You move around to the back of the machine. You've got swing flashes. Those machines are going to squawk at you and it's going to flash at you.
00:03:53:17 - 00:04:13:10
Mike Hickerson
But we also have the 270 degrees of camera. You say, why 270, not 360. We expect the operator to be in the cab and his eyes open, so he should be able to see out the front. Right. The. But you do have 270 degrees of onboard camera. The edge you go through there, the walkways, you can see the.
00:04:13:15 - 00:04:36:10
Mike Hickerson
We only have one. Handrail up there, the rest of it, when you step down into the work platform, the so that the tech that is working on your machine, your future is working down. It's not having to have that fall restraint, okay? Because he's working down in a in an enclosed area. It's safer on this side. You also see that we have the hydraulic fans.
00:04:36:13 - 00:04:56:08
Mike Hickerson
So you have the reversible fan. You're running along side that you need to reverse. Just hit your button. It'll run through the cycle to reverse the fan. Clean out your radiator. Keep on going. All right. When we get to talking about Cable Co we talked about that work platform. You open the door. You're on the catwalk. Look at that.
00:04:56:10 - 00:05:21:02
Mike Hickerson
Wow. I've got my return filter. Got my fuel filters right there. My old filters got a remote electric priming pump. Super easy. I mean, the convenience sitting there, I step up in here, I looked down. I've got great access to my, control valve. The. I've got another panel that opens up. I can get to the backside of the control valve.
00:05:21:04 - 00:05:38:13
Mike Hickerson
Everything's easy to work on, and I am down inside this machine. No fault is faint. And then we have the cab. I mean, this is a very nice cab. Okay. I'm. I'm not the biggest fella out there, but we've had a few big fellas come in today. All right. So.
00:05:38:15 - 00:06:02:04
Mike Hickerson
This lever slides the whole platform right now, sit up there because I'm a little fella. I've got adjustments. Got adjustments there. I got adjustments back here. I've got a little lumbar support back there. Okay. You can get this seat set up. If you can't get comfortable in this machine, you probably can't get comfortable. Okay. The engineers did some really great thinking.
00:06:02:06 - 00:06:24:16
Mike Hickerson
We all carry these devices around in our back pocket, but they require power. They put a slot in the cell phone holder. And right there's our 12 volt plug. And right there's our cell phone holder. Machines got Bluetooth radio on it. So you call me I hands I'm hands free talking to you on the phone. Safety got the ten inch monitor right there.
00:06:24:19 - 00:06:45:11
Mike Hickerson
Not a touch screen, because in America our hands are usually dirty and we scratch stuff. So we have the job down. Very easy to work with and makes things last longer. Okay. You got lots of safety. You got set and forget AC. Just set the temperature you want day like today where it's a little nippy out, runs the heat, keeps it about 70 degrees.
00:06:45:17 - 00:06:58:27
Mike Hickerson
The if it was to get warm AC comes on setting. Forget just like your pickup truck. All right. So it's got all the creature comforts, the. But we're very simple. We're easy to deal with. Come see us today.
