Last week, our sister site, Equipment World, reported that Wirtgen was one of six innovation award winners at Bauma 2013.
Wirtgen won for its “AutoPilot Field Rover” entry, which “accelerates the processes in road construction, saves costs and delivers higher quality.” The system collects measurement data and creates a “virtual stringline” that is downloaded to a USB stick, which is inserted into a slipform paver’s machine control and directs where the paver goes.
The rover can be used with little training, enhances safety and reduces the chance of machine damage.
