Public-private partnerships. They’re all the rage these days. (Check out the May issue of Better Roads for a special report on public-private partnerships.)
One more of these partnerships is underway. The Texas Department of Transportation and LBJ Development Partners will be working together in a $4 billion contract. TxDOT awarded LBJ the design and construction of a 13-mile section of Interstate 635. The project will rebuild the eight lanes of the LBJ Freeway and add six additional toll lanes in an attempt to help clear up some of that Dallas highway congestion.
The public-private partnership, which allows LBJ Development Partners to operate and maintain the road for 52 years, is scheduled to begin this fall, according a report.
