Lower fuel use with Caterpillar’s 349E hydraulic excavator, which offers a 5-percent boost in fuel efficiency over the previous Model 345D. A C13 ACERT Tier 4 Interim engine delivers 396 net horsepower and operates on ultra-low sulfur diesel or a blend of ULSD and 20-percent biodiesel. Cat’s Clean Emissions Module regeneration system senses when to regenerate without interruptions to the work cycle. The Engine Idle Shutdown Setting lets you select how long to permit the machine to idle before automatic shutdown. A one-touch idle control feature allows the operator to easily switch between idling and high speed. Isochronous speed control, which maintains constant engine speed under load, also conserves fuel. Additional features include an electric boom regeneration valve that captures and recycles hydraulic energy when the boom lowers; a heavy lift mode that increases main hydraulic pressure to 5,512 psi; a swing priority system that uses an electric valve; a 40-percent larger LCD monitor and a selection of booms and digging arms.

Simplify full-depth concrete repair projects with E-Z Drill’s Model 210 equipment mounted concrete drill attachments. The 210 Series includes three models, is compatible with most backhoes and excavators, and drills 5/8- to 2 1/2-inch-diameter holes to a depth of 18 inches. Rather than positioning the unit in the exact drilling location, the operator can place the drill in close proximity to the specified area and then adjust the location with a toggle switch. A second set of holes may also be drilled without moving the unit. The attachment also features a floating bucket curl pin that ensures automatic leveling, 360-degree rotation and an automatic drill shut-off.

Boost productivity with Vermeer’s redesigned HG6000 horizontal grinder, which now features a 755-horsepower Caterpillar C18 Tier 4 Interim engine that offers a 20-percent horsepower increase over the previous engine. The grinder has a dual-screen system with reversible, interchangeable screens for versatility and long wear life. The screen can be moved closer to or farther away from the hammer tips based on the material processed. The hammermill has 10 hammers and 20 cutter blocks with a 36.4-inch cutter tip diameter and 62-inch cutting width. The grinder also has Vermeer’s SmartGrind system that stops and reverses material when engine rpm drops below a preset speed, reducing wear to engine components.



Ensure precision measurements with Topcon’s MS Series robotic total stations, which can be used for large scale 3D measurement applications, and has a 2D monitoring function for two-dimensional projects. The MS05AX, with 0.5-inch angle accuracy, and the MS1AX, with 1-inch angle accuracy, offer up to 1,000 meters auto-pointing range and up to a 400-meter non-prism range. The series can be used with a prism, reflective sheets or reflectorless. A pre-scan search function teaches the instrument the location of the targets in the monitoring field.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s EC250D and EC300D excavators deliver a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 13 percent when compared with previous models, and feature Tier 4 Interim Volvo D8H engines that produce lower emissions and a 10-percent power increase. The machines’ Contronics advanced mode selection system enables the operator to choose from five working modes, and an attachment management system stores up to 18 different attachment presets. Improvements over the C Series hydraulics: 3- to 5-percent more swing speed and 6- to 7-percent more swing torque. An ECO mode minimizes hydraulic system losses via a smart electro-hydraulic control.

Higher Innovative Solutions now offers their pneumatic motor conversion kits for jumping jack tampers in a diesel version. The Phoenix Air Tamper comes with a new clutch, adapter plate, air motor, hose and valve kit and all hardware needed to adapt any brand. You can operate up to three units from a 185-cfm compressor. The kits take less than two hours to install.



Cut to a 6-inch depth with RoadHog’s self-contained planer attachment, which requires no hydraulic or electrical connections. Suitable for skid steers, backhoes or compact wheel loaders, the attachment has a 62-horsepower air-cooled Deutz diesel engine. Features include hydraulic tilt, depth and sideshift control, and the planer is available in 36- or 40-inch cutting widths. Also available: 18- and 24-inch width models with a 50-horsepower engine.

Miller Electric’s Big Blue 450 Duo CST, a dual operator diesel engine-driven welding generator, has two CST 280 Stick/TIG inverters and delivers 12,000 watts of continuous three-phase power in a single unit. Useful for structural steel, fabrication and maintenance applications, the Big Blue 450 Duo CST has a Mitsubishi S4L2 four-cylinder engine and operates at 1,800 rpm to reduce fuel usage and keep noise levels low. The unit has an Adaptive Hot Start feature for Stick welding applications that increases the output amperage at the start of a weld, and Lift-Arc technology that improves TIG arc starts.
