As it does most years, Ford’s F-Series won “hottest truck” at this year’s SEMA show thanks to the vast majority of custom trucks at the show bearing the Blue Oval. And, year in and year out, by far the truck you see the most of while wandering the show floor, is the Super Duty.
However, the Super Duty shared a significant amount of spotlight at this year’s SEMA show with its newly revived little brother, the Ranger.
The all-new 2019 Ranger marks Ford’s return to the midsize pickup segment ever since the automaker discontinued the small truck in 2012. The truck’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost delivers 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. Meanwhile, max towing and payload is rated at 7,500 and 1,860 pounds, respectively, pushing the new Ranger to the top of the midsize class in terms of capability. And if the number of custom builds we saw at SEMA are any indication, there is a fair amount of excitement surrounding the Ranger’s return.
Below is a gallery of the various Ranger builds I and Tom Quimby, editor of our sister site Hard Working Trucks, saw while walking the show floor. What I found most striking was how visually interesting each of these builds were. And not just because of the modifications made by the builders.
The first time I saw the new Ranger’s design, I didn’t have many thoughts other than while it wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible either. However, after seeing the truck many times at SEMA, I came away with a different impression. It’s actually a very handsome truck in person, and once you start seeing these driving around you in your neck of the woods, they might even turn your head, too. Check out the photos below.
