On May 2, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) took Seven Action News on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Interstate 75 South River Rouge Bridge construction project between Detroit and Southgate where crews are working around the clock to remove and replace concrete on more than a mile of the interstate and reconstructing bridges at Goddard Road.
“I think we are doing quite well,” Bill Erban, MDOT Project Manager, told the news agency. “We are moving the concrete, and when it is all said and done, we are going to have a bridge we can be proud of.”
MDOT is getting complaints about noise from people who live near the construction work site, so it has sound monitors out to measure the noise volume. “It is really impossible to do it without making noise,” Erban told the news agency. “…We are trying to respond to community needs, and we are also trying to build a bridge.
The more than $145 million project, which started in February, is expected to take a two years to complete and should last approximately 50 years with proper maintenance.
