Terex unveiled the TX860B Elite at World of Concrete, commemorating the company’s 50th anniversary of its backhoe line. The backhoe is part of the company’s new compact machine lineup, which includes compact track loaders, compact excavators, telehandlers and site dumpers.
The machine has mechanical loader controls and pilot, excavtor-type controls on the backhoe end. Here’s the release:
Grand Rapids, Minn. (February 3, 2009) –
“The TX860B Elite builds on Terex’s 50-year history of tractor loader backhoe solutions designed to meet contractors’ specific jobsite needs,” says Scott Sikkink, product marketing specialist for Terex
ASV. “The design and technology of the entire line of Terex® backhoe loaders — with their wheel loader versatility and excavator functionality — increases our customers’ jobsite productivity and cuts their operating costs by offering one machine that does the work of two.”
The front loader end on the Terex® TX860B Elite is designed with proven mechanical controls, giving operators the maneuverability and efficiency of working with a wheel loader, while the backhoe end features advanced piloted controls, giving the machine excavator capabilities. The piloted controls are engineered with a closed center, flow sharing control valve to give operators smooth, multi-function performance with precision control in trenching and grading applications. The TX860B Elite is also designed with a pattern change lever inside the cab, allowing operators to easily switch from SAE to ISO control patterns to accommodate personal operating preferences.
The TX860B Elite has a 100-hp (74.8 kW), Tier 3-compliant engine and powershift transmission for an ideal combination of heavy-duty power and easy operation. Weighing 15,964 lb (7241 kg), the TX860B Elite boasts a maximum digging depth 19 ft 3 in (5.9 m), a dipper force of 9,290 lbf (4213 kg) and a bucket breakout force of 15,615 lbf (7082 kg) and a thumb switch-operated extendable dipperstick control in its backhoe performance. This unit also has a lift capacity of 9,796 lb (4443 kg) and a bucket breakout force of 13,709 lbf (6218 kg) in its loader performance. It is designed to handle a 1.32 yd3-sized loader bucket, as well as a host of other attachments including multiple-purpose, high-capacity and grapple front
buckets, hydraulic breakers, forks, angle dozers, augers, compactors and a broad range of different sized rear buckets.
This anniversary edition unit is designed with high loader bucket rotation thanks to the Terex® bucket linkage design, which allows operators to drive into a pile and roll back 45 degrees. The TX860B Elite dumps at 57 degrees for greater fill capacity and better discharge. It also comes standard with four-wheel drive and front counterweight for greater fore and aft stability, and its stabilizer legs feature a lock-out valve in the circuit so they remain down during operation — providing increased stability when the operator is working 90 degrees to the side of the machine. “Rubber pads on the flip-over stabilizer foot come standard on one side for street applications, and cleats on the other side for soil work,” says Sikkink. “Also, Terex has positioned the TRAC rod steering system on the back side of the axle, mounting it high enough to maintain significant ground clearance, which provides superior protection and avoids damaging the undercarriage when working in rocky conditions.”
The design of the Terex® TX860B Elite offers comfort and convenience. This model is engineered with a rear-tilting hood, giving operators and technicians easy access to all maintenance points from a standing position alongside the machine. Its ergonomically designed joystick, adjustable armrests on the operator’s seat, lumbar-supporting suspension seat and moveable backhoe controls are all designed to increase the operator’s comfort and visibility. “And for enhanced visibility, the TX860B Elite comes standard with a joystick override switch that allows the operator to stand while operating the backhoe,” finishes Sikkink, “giving them a clear, unobstructed view inside the trench.”
