It’s the Fourth of July, a day to relax, throw some burgers and dogs on the grill, shoot fireworks and celebrate with family and friends the freedom this great country of ours affords us. Freedom earned through the sacrifice of others during some dark times. With that in mind, we thought this collection of Kodachrome prints from 1942 during World War II were a beautiful thing to take in today. Because just about all of the footage and photos from this era are black and white, it’s sometimes hard to imagine what that proud time in American history is like. These photos, shot for the Office of War Information and shared by Shorpy, exude the spirit of that period and of this country. Have a happy Fourth!
