Part-time workers get health insurance through ARTBA program

If you are a member of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, your hourly and seasonal employees are eligible for a new insurance program that provides accident and sickness medical plans, as well as dental, term life or short-term disability benefits.

The program, announced June 16, could make a significant difference for part-time employees who were previously uninsured. The insurance is available to the employees of ARTBA members, and there is no direct cost for the employer to put the program in place. ARTBA offers the program in conjunction with CNA Group Health and Life Insurance, Patterson Smith Associates and Strategic Resource Company.

The plan includes two medical options with inpatient and outpatient benefits, discounts on prescription drugs and eyewear purchases, and covers unexpected trips to the doctor or emergency room. The Net plus plan has a $7,500 inpatient annual maximum, has co-pays for doctors’ office visits, a $35-per-month prescription drug card, as well as a $1,000 outpatient annual maximum. Only contractors who employ at least 51 workers can be eligible for the Netplus plan. The other plan available, BVI 750, has no requirement on company size. The plan covers $750 per day in hospital indemnity, has an accident benefit of 80 percent, and covers up to three annual emergency room visits and six physician office visits.

ARTBA and CNA have partnered in offering insurance plans to members of the construction community since 1992, when CNA began offering road and bridge contractors property and casualty insurance plans. To find out more about the insurance plans available through ARTBA, click on the link to the right.
