With a focus on preventing falls on the job, Caterpillar launched its Cat Kinetic Ice+ boots designed to grip the ice.
The boots sport a Vibram Artic Grip Pro tread, which Cat says provides three times more grip on wet ice than typical treads. A Thermochromatic lug turns blue when the temperature drops to 32 degrees or below; “so you know they are working,” the company says.
Check out our review of the boots in this video:
Along with slip resistance, Cat made them waterproof and insulated them with 200 grams of Thinsulate. Other features include electric-shock hazard protection, composite toe, nylon shank for arch support and scuff-resistant heal cap.
The boots are modeled after hiking boots, with full-grain leather uppers, and designed to be light and comfortable. An “engineered comfort footbed” provides additional shock absorption, Cat says.
They come in three colors: black, gunmetal and brown. The black boots retail for $125 and the gunmetal ones for $140 at Cat Footwear. The brown boots are available for $150 at DSW. Inventory is limited for these boots. Other retailers offering them: Amazon: gunmetal, black, brown; Sierra; and Zappos.
