Ford drag races the F-350 against Chevy, Ram with 20k pounds in tow

Updated Oct 15, 2013

Ford F-350 drag raceFord’s pretty happy with its new 2015 Super Duty models. Specifically, it’s happy with the improvements made to the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 diesel. The Power Stroke has been upgraded with the larger GT37 turbocharger, allowing the engine to produce more than 400 horsepower and 800 lb.-ft. of torque. So what better way to show off that towing power than by strapping 20,000 pounds to a 2015 F-350 and drag racing it against the top-of-the-line towing packages currently offered by Chevrolet and Ram? And all up a steep incline.

For the races, Ford equipped the F-350 with its 6.7-liter V-8 while the Ram 2013 3500 was outfitted with Cummins’ 6.7-liter I-6. The 2014 Silverado 3500 was equipped with a 6.6-liter Duramax V-8. Recently, Chevrolet and GMC announced their new 2015 HD models with improvements that General Motors says gives them best-in-class towing. But of course, those weren’t available for Ford’s testing.
