So, this went just about as badly as is possible.
Just remember, when lowering massive machines into a pit with a crane, counterweight is always your best friend. Thankfully, the crane operator felt what was coming fast enough to swan dive to safety. His execution on the dismount was a bit more graceful than the crane’s though. Here’s a fun exercise, keep the cost of these two machines in mind as you hear the horrifying thud and craaash they create has they hit the rock below. Yeeesh.
