Closer Look: Avant’s High-Capacity, Low-Cost 855i Compact Loader

The Avant Tecno 855i is a no-frills, single-speed version of the company’s largest articulated compact wheel loader, the 860i.

While the loader can only travel about half the speed of the 860i, it offers the same lifting power and height – plus, robust hydraulics, compact dimensions and a wide range of attachment options.

To get a closer look at the 855i, check out our video from ARA Show earlier this year with Avant’s Director of Dealer Development and National Accounts, Brian DePaul.

The 855i runs on the same 56-horsepower Kohler KDI diesel engine as the 860i. Costs have been reduced by swapping for a simpler Poclain MSE05 single-speed drive motor.

Ideal for a variety of construction, landscaping and agriculture tasks, it has a lift capacity of 4,190 pounds, and its telescopic boom gives it a max lift height of 11 feet 5.8 inches.

DePaul says that fuel efficiency is one of the key advantages to compact articulated loaders, with the 855i burning only about half a gallon of fuel per hour compared to roughly 2.5 gallons for the typical skid steer. Its lighter weight also makes it easier to transport.

The articulated, non-oscillating frame and low center of gravity enhance stability, even when lifting heavy loads. The operator is positioned on the front side of the articulation for improved visibility to the work tool and safety.
