German heavy-haul trailer manufacturer Goldhofer Inc. will build its first North American assembly and production plant in North Carolina.

The company chose the Trivium Corporate Center in Catawba County near Hickory to invest $19.5 million on its new U.S. headquarters, which will have an initial 80,000-square-foot production hall.

The company plans to create 80 new jobs by 2030. The new jobs could potentially create an annual payroll impact of more than $4.7 million for the region, according to Governor Josh Stein’s office. The One North Carolina Fund provided a $200,000 grant for the company, which must meet performance measures before receiving the money.

Goldhofer has a goal of “significantly strengthening its manufacturing and service capabilities across the North American market,” the company posted on LinkedIn.

“The new facility will position Goldhofer to better support customers throughout the region while reinforcing its commitment to long-term growth and investment in the North American market.”

Goldhofer traces its roots to 1705 and is headquartered in Memmingen, Germany. The company showed its trailer products at ConExpo 2026 in March.

That included the new-to-U.S. PST/SL-E Split with Widening System, which features variable vehicle width, high stability and the ability to handle loads with a high center of gravity for heavy hauling of industrial equipment.

“When we thought about where Goldhofer needs to grow in North America, North Carolina kept rising to the top,” said David Weinmann, CEO of Goldhofer. “Skilled people, solid infrastructure and a business environment that supports manufacturing. We’re committing to the U.S. for the long haul, and Hickory is where we will start the next chapter.”
