Associated General Contractors of America’s chief economist says Congressional failure to pass federal aviation legislation is putting roughly 24,000 construction jobs at risk. Ken Simonson says the failure to act has halted $2.5 billion worth of airport construction projects.
“With so few construction segments doing well, halting an entire category of federally-funded construction projects is exceptionally devastating economically for this industry,” Simonson says.
A George Mason University analysis says halting airport construction puts about 24,000 more construction workers out of work. Another 11,000 workers in related service and supply businesses are also affected.
