California Department of Transportation crews are working to clear mud off Highway 101 and State Route 33 following massive mudslides.

Caltrans reports that multiple crews are working seven days a week on State Route 33 in Las Padres National Forest in Ventura County. The agency says it is clearing about 7 million pounds of dirt each day from the road, and that it will be closed about three more weeks between Fairview Drive and Lockwood Valley Road.

Highway 101 in Santa Barbara will likely remain closed for six more days, Caltrans reported January 16.

The agency is also working to remove large boulders on Highway 192 at Toro Creek near Carpinteria.

The mudslides and flooding began January 9. At least 20 people have died in the mudslides, which affected 30 square miles. Hundreds of houses have been damaged or destroyed.
