According to a press release from the governor, Millar, current Deputy Secretary, will take over leading the Washington Department of Transportation immediately.
“WSDOT is fortunate to have Roger, an accomplished engineer and transportation leader, to step up in this pivotal leadership role. Roger is not only an outstanding manager, he’s committed to furthering the innovative work happening throughout WSDOT,” Inslee said.
Millar has more than 38 years of experience in the transportation industry, working in construction, design, research, policy development, management and administration. He worked as a public works director, city planner and vice president of a worldwide engineering firm. Most recently, he worked as a vice president of a non-profit organization that helps provide technical assistance to transportation departments in several states.
Millar served on the ASCE Committee for America’s Infrastructure from 2000 to 2014 where he helped make the “Report Card for America’s Infrastructure.” He’s also won awards such as the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organization’s National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Metropolitan Transportation Planning and the American Consulting Engineers Council Honor Award.
