Michigan DOT holds public webinar on long-range transportation plan revisions

Updated Nov 11, 2015

Michigan welcome sign with road workThe Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is holding a public webinar Nov. 12 to discuss “forecasts and strategies” in the state’s “MI Transportation Plan: Moving Michigan Forward.”

The current plan covers the years 2005 to 2035 and MDOT is looking to add plans continuing to 2040.

“MDOT is revising the plan in order to maintain the 20-year planning horizon required by federal transportation planning regulations,” the department said in a release.

“Since reauthorization of the federal highway program could change these requirements, and since such legislation is still pending in Congress, the revision will be an interim step to keep the plan current. A full update will be scheduled at a future time in response to any new requirements that may result from federal reauthorization.”

Registration for the webinar, which is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. EDT on Nov. 12, is available here.

The current plan also is available for review on the registration page. MDOT plans to post the 2040 plan in the next few months, with a 30-day comment period occurring in March next year.
