Walt Gray has joined the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) as chief deputy secretary, a move from his previous position as administrator of the North Carolina Industrial Commission.

Gray, who also serves on the North Carolina Supplemental Retirement Plans Board of Trustess, takes over the position from Nick Tennyson who assumed the Transportation Secretary post in August.

He has worked in several financial industry positions and holds an active North Carolina CPA license.

“We are pleased to welcome Walt to NCDOT,” Tennyson said. “His strong finance and management background will help our department enhance efficiency and service as we continue to navigate through challenges in available transportation funding and rapidly growing infrastructure demands.”
