A construction worker doing pavement work died last week after he was hit by a dump truck.

According to WFLA, 26-year-old Kimbrough Haines III was working on Veterans Expressway in Tampa late Wednesday night when the dump truck he was standing behind began to back up. Haines was hit by the truck and stuck underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old driving the dump truck for Lane Construction, where Haines worked as well, and an 18-year-old passenger were not injured in the accident.

Lane Construction communications manager Lauralee Heckman said the accident is being investigated, adding she couldn’t give any information about employee safety precautions.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time,” Heckman said.
