Asphalt mix producer survey to determine sustainable product usage

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are conducting their annual survey of asphalt mix producers to determine the level of recycled or reclaimed materials and warm-mix asphalt (WMA) for last year (2014).

Since the 2009 construction season the two organizations have surveyed the use of WMA, recycled asphalt shingles (RAS), and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). The survey results for 2013 revealed that almost a third of all asphalt pavement mixtures that year used WMA technologies.

Responses are due by April 30. NAPA and FHWA recommend respondents download a printed version of the survey before starting in order to collect the proper data for answering the questions.

“We know asphalt is the most sustainable paving option, and recycled materials and warm-mix asphalt technologies are critical to the industry’s sustainable future,” said NAPA Director of Engineering Kent Hansen. “We need (the help of asphalt mix producers) in benchmarking the industry’s progress in putting sustainable practices into use.”
