A Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation panel is set to discuss rail safety next week.
The Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security is scheduled to meet on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. for a hearing that looks at rail safety in the U.S.
The hearing, titled “Enhancing Our Rail Safety: Current Challenges for Passenger and Freight Rail,” follows the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) release of its 2014 Most Wanted List, which included safety in rail mass transit as one of its top 10 advocacy and awareness priorities for the year.
The Senate Commerce Committee’s website notes that, during the hearing, members will “examine the current state of safety on the nation’s passenger and freight rail networks, including discussion of recent high-profile rail accidents, positive train control implementation, and other key safety challenges.”
