Construction industry safety award applications due June 30

The Associated Builders and Contractors will accept applications until June 30 for the Construction Industry Safety Excellence Awards, an annual contest that recognizes contractors with outstanding safety records.

The purpose of the award is to minimize the number construction accidents that occur by increasing awareness and safety measures.

ABC members can apply for the award through ABC’s website. Non- members who want to apply must be a member of a national construction industry association or a local user council.

Winners are chosen based on several criteria, including OSHA injury/illness statistical data for the contractor’s site personnel, his/her effectiveness in managing subcontractors’ safety performance, a written synopsis of the contractor’s safety management system and a review of safety performance with three client companies that recently worked with the contractor.

Awards are presented in three categories, including: building construction general contractors; heavy construction (non-building) contractors; and special trade construction contractors. Within the three categories, awards will be divided into four groups according to annual man-hours: less than 100,001 man-hours; 100,001 to 500,000 man-hours; 500,001 to 2 million man-hours; and more than 2 million man-hours.
