Awww, yes….the hallmarks of summer: longer days, the great outdoors, concerts and an overly curious teenager getting her head stuck in a truck’s exhaust pipe.

Okay, so most of us have probably come across some huge tailpipes on pickups. Some definitely make you want to take a closer look.

That was the case for 19-year-old Kaitlyn Strom at a recent concert in Minnesota who not only went in for a closer look, she checked to see if her head would actually fit inside the pipe. It was a tight fit—too tight. Minnesota firefighters had to free Strom with a saw. Some of that unforgettable scene was posted on Facebook (see video below).

Facebook user Jennifer Schartz writes on Strom’s Facebook page, “I give her a pass. Ah to be young and stupid. Lots of us did equally dumb things back in the day before social media (thank God).” So true.

The pickup’s owner, Tom Wold of Wold Fabrication, took it all in good humor and posed with Strom in a photo who’s seen holding what’s left of his tailpipe.

Followers of the Darwin Awards will undoubtedly indulge in the fact that Wold’s machine shop, which specializes in off-road performance products, is based in Darwin, Minn. and that the now famous, severed tailpipe—it’s garnered millions of views online—is now quite the conversation piece at the Darwin Tavern. Can’t make this stuff up.

So, who says there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues? We’re not sure if Strom will be applying for an emissions job anytime soon at the EPA, but nonetheless we appreciate her odd sense of adventure which apparently was fueled in part by a drink or two. Police cited her for underage drinking.
