To eliminate the cost, downtime and contamination that may result from outfitting a machine in the field with laser and GPS technology, Caterpillar has introduced factory-installed, sensor-independent AccuGrade control systems. The system allows operators to switch easily from laser-based system for flat planes and consistent slopes to GPS systems for complex 3-D designs. With the system, the operator can watch a visual display and control the blade manually or let the system control the blade automatically through the machine’s hydraulics. The system is currently available as an option on Cat D3G, D4G, D5G, D5N, D6N, D6R II, D7R II, D8T and D9T track-type tractors.
