Perkins introduces first mechanical four-cylinder Tier 3 engine

Perkins Engines says it has introduced the world’s first four-cylinder diesel engine that uses a mechanical fuel management system to achieve Tier 3 engine compliance. No fuel system electronics are required in the new 1104D Series engine, which uses elements of parent Caterpillar’s ACERT technology. The engine includes a two-valve head, rotary fuel injection pump, a single vee-belt design and optimized inlet manifold temperatures above 100 horsepower. Also new from Perkins: The four-cylinder, 1.5-liter 404C-15 and two-cylinder 13.7-horsepower 402C-05 engines.
