Junkyard Wars to appear at trade show

Are you a Junkyard Wars junkie? Thousands of viewers across the country tune in to The Learning Channel every week to watch the battle of man against the machine. Now, attendees at the 2004 International Manufacturing Technology Show will get a chance to use their equipment and engineering know-how in a Junkyard Wars competition.

The event, “Junkyard Wars: On The Road,” will involve three teams of up to four people each building gravity-powered vehicles out of junk. TheEach teams will be given less than 10 minutes to construct a motor-less car out of scrap frames and spare parts. Once the vehicles are built, they will endure a 35-foot gravity crash course that includes a 16-foot hill, a wall of fire, a smoking “tunnel of doom,” speed bumps and death drops.

For those show attendees who aren’t competing in the competition, a large plasma screen surrounding the course will display the race, for show attendants. The race which will occur every day during the eight-day IMTS event., which will take place IMTS will be held September 8-15 at the McCormick Place in Chicago.
