Tripod Data Systems giving away handheld computer

Tripod Data Systems, along with Microsoft, is giving away one Recon handheld computer to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Recon’s release. Using the portable computer, contractors can collect and look up information on the jobsite without going into the field office.

The $1,499 Recon is designed to be used all day in extreme outdoor environments, making it ideal for land surveying, mapping, forestry, utilities and other construction jobs. The computer’s weight, 17 ounces, along with its rounded edges, makes it simple to carry, and its large, widely spaced buttons and bright TFT display make it easy to use in bad weather or in areas with poor lighting. The computer uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs.

“For anyone who needs a handheld data collector that holds up in the real world, the only thing better than a Recon is a free Recon,” Dale Kyle, handheld products manager said.

Dale Kyle, handheld products manager for Tripod Data Systems, says the computer’s Windows software brings all of the applications of the field office computers out onto the jobsite, so that users can get the information they need regardless of whether they are working in extreme temperatures, driving rain or in a dusty area.
