Construction crew leader training program to be offered online

Training construction crew leaders could be made easier and more effective through a new online education tool.

The National Center for Construction Education and Research recently developed an interactive, web-based version of its Introductory Skills for the Crew Leader program.

The program, which covers the basic skills needed to supervise personnel, also teaches the logistics of planning and managing projects, including estimating and scheduling. The online tool incorporates sound, graphics and short movie clips to make the program more entertaining and interactive.

“One of the primary goals of NCCER is the use of technology to improve the techniques in the delivery of training and education,” said Gary Wilson, director of programs and development for NCCER.

Because the program is online, individuals can learn at their own pace at home or work. Wilson hopes this flexibility will influence more workers to strive for leadership roles.

“For too many years the industry has lost craftspeople because of the lack of available tools to prepare them for new branches in their career path,” Wilson said.

The online crew leader program will be released next month. For a free program demonstration, contact NCCER at 1-888-NCCER-20, or click on the link to the right to find out more about NCCER’s educational programs.
