Volvo fields new mid-sized wheel loaders with electronic engines

Volvo Construction Equipment has added four mid-range wheel loaders to its lineup. The L60E and L110E models are brand new machines, and the L70E and L90E wheel loaders are upgrades to their predecessors in the D-series. New technology common to all four includes electronically controlled low-emission engines and an improved automatic power shift transmission.
The L60E, L70E and L90E take their power from a new 6-liter Volvo diesel engine. A 7-liter engine powers the L110E. These turbocharged engines feature air-to-air intercoolers and hydraulically driven, electronically controlled fans that vary their speeds based on cooling demand so as not to unnecessarily rob the engine of operating horsepower. Engine output on the four models ranges from 140 to 210 horsepower.
The Volvo-developed countershaft transmission instantly selects the correct gear depending on engine rpm, travel speed and the shift program selected. The axles are integrated into the drive-train design to optimize rimpull. Outboard, fully sealed, self-adjusting wet disc brakes offer smooth, reliable braking. Volvo’s torque parallel linkage combines high breakout forces with parallel lift action. A three-computer, Contronic network electronically monitors and controls machine functions.
