Plans are being considered to bring traffic relief to Interstate 80 between Sacramento and Dixon, California, according to KVTV-TV news station.
A proposal from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) would add 21 miles of bus and carpool lanes on both sides of the highway. The highway would be widened from three to four lanes westbound and eastbound.
Caltrans told KXTV that the additional lanes would cut traffic delays by more than half for morning rush hour and about 40 percent for afternoon commuters.
The plan would cost between $500 million and $750 million. Construction could begin in Summer 2021 if the project is approved, the station reports.
