The Georgia Department of Transportation has approved 35 transportation construction project contracts valued at $88.5 million for advertised bids from February.
Of these contracts, 11 are for bridge projects with a total value of $24.7 million and 18 are for resurfacing projects valued at more than $52 million.
The largest project from an investment standpoint is resurfacing of 18.8 miles of Interstate 75/SR 401 in Tift and Turner counties in the southwest part of the state. The $19.8 million contract went to Reames and Son Construction in Valdosta, with a completion date of Jan. 31, 2017.
The approved bridge contracts include three bridge bond projects valued at $8.6 million and are located in Banks, Stephens and Telfair counties. These projects are part of the $100 million in bridge bonds appropriated by the state legislature last year, and brings the total of these projects awarded to 23.
More than $16 million was approved for bridge rehabilitation projects in Bartow, Floyd, Clayton, DeKalb, Cook, Lowndes, Tift, Fannin, Habersham, Fulton and Hall counties, and $3.1 million was approved for a new bridge construction over the Flint River in Fayette and Spalding counties.
