Worker seriously injured in hit and run in California work zone

Traffic in a work zoneA man doing road work in a California construction zone was seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle during a hit and run.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Ismael Mayorga-Torres was working as traffic controller on Highway 89 in Homewood, California, on June 29 during heavy afternoon traffic.

Mayorga-Torres was walking along the road when he was hit by a pickup truck with a camper shell and lumber rack that The Sacramento Bee reported was going between 15 and 25 miles per hour. Torres suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized.

A 60-year-old man named Erich Griesemer was arrested the day after the incident and faces charges for an injury-related hit-and-run traffic collision.

The incident is currently under investigation and California Highway Patrol officials told the paper the details of Griesemer’s arrest couldn’t be disclosed at this time.
