In a rare moment of restraint, the Federal Environmental Protection Agency in March of 2008 denied California the right to set its own separate motor vehicle emissions rules. That denial may be in danger of crumbling now that the EPA is reconsidering. Shortly after taking office President Barrack Obama requested that the EPA revisit the matter. “The EPA has now set in motion an impartial review of the California waiver decision,” said Lisa Jackson, an administrator with the agency. The agency will take public comment considering the reconsideration for 60 days after it’s publication in the Federal Register, and a public hearing on the matter will be held in Washington D.C. in March.
