No. 5: Speck CandyShell + Faceplace

For years now, Speck’s CandyShell cases have been one of the most popular smartphone cases available. The cases offer a great deal of protection in a slim package thanks to a hard outer layer and a soft silicone layer inside that hugs the phone and reduces shock from drops. And the cases do so with a bright, glossy look and a ton of grip thanks to the rubbery edges. But now Speck has upped the game a bit and has added a faceplate to the package to protect the iPhone’s screen and bezel. Speck offers a 1-year warranty on the case and says it has been drop-tested and that it meets or exceeds military standards. $45

For Android users, Speck isn’t offering the Faceplate package just yet, but the regular CandyShell cases are available for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2, as well as the HTC One and the Motorola Moto X.
