This doesn’t mean biofuels have to be scrapped. What it does mean is that there are no silver bullets, no magic solutions to the climate change issue. What bothers me is that so many environmentalists desire these miracles, when any good scientist would tell you there are trade offs in every solution. The mainstream media and many Washington politicians have embraced the environment-as-religion position, which is why I recommend they all read these five physics lessons. Solar won’t save us, wind won’t save us, the billions we’re about to spend on “smart” electrical grids will barely make a dent. Hard work, hard choices, cost benefit analysis and realism rather than emotionalism may move things forward. But those attributes are all lacking in today’s environmental movement.
