A Department of Energy report released in March has found that 89.6 percent of sample biodiesel fuels tested met government specifications, compared with a 2006 report that said only 59 percent of the biodiesel tested met federal standards. The study examined 56 samples from different producers representing 70 percent of the U.S. biodiesel market in 2007.
Researchers concluded that the size of the biodiesel producer and the ability to get certified in a national quality control program were paramount factors directly influencing whether or not the finished product met federal standards.
