Bulldozer operator begins demolishing wrong house

A bulldozer operator with the wrong address began demolishing a home in Hollywood, Fla., Thursday while the couple inside were eating dinner.

The operator ripped into the house at 5:30 p.m., tearing off part of its roof. Yesenia Reyes and her husband ran outside and yelled at the operator to stop. No one was injured.

“I can fix it in two days,”George Zaragozi, president of Zara Inc., told the Associated Press. “He made a mistake and thought it was supposed to be demolished.”

The contractor had been demolishing homes in the area and said he would repair the damage, which Hollywood Fire-Rescue officials estimated at $5,000.

The Reyeses are renting the house and their three children were not at home when the incident occurred.

“He came in through the back, and he just took the ceiling down,” Mrs. Reyes said. “He almost came through my son’s bedroom.”
