Michelin plans to expand a Lexington County, S.C., plant that makes large earthmover tires due to the shortage of the product and increased demand. The plant, built in 1998, currently employs 256 people. At the same site, Michelin employs nearly 1,300 workers making tires for passenger vehicles and light trucks.
Michelin is also building a new earthmover tire facility in Brazil that should be in operation in 2007. The company has expanded capacity at a similar plant in Spain.
