Custom wheel loader goes to work in Gulf Coast

Liebherr’s “Stars and Stripes” wheel loader, which toured the country last year as part of the company’s celebration of its 35th anniversary in America, has found a new home working in the Gulf Coast states for Wilson Construction.

James Wilson, owner of Wilson Construction, was in the market for an L580 wheel loader and was sold the custom painted machine when Liebherr discovered it would be put to work in Gulf Coast reconstruction. Wilson Construction is focusing its initial efforts in Biloxi, Miss., preparing a 40-acre landfill that will play a role in processing debris resulting from Hurricane Katrina. The landfill will be 50 feet deep and will eventually rise to 50 feet above ground.

“It is important to have a reliable fleet of machines to work the landfill for at least 20 years and more important is to have a company that provides service support that keeps the machines in optimal working condition,” Wilson said. “I believe we found that with Liebherr.”

In addition to the L580 wheel loader, Wilson Construction purchased two LR632 crawler loaders and one PR722 dozer from Liebherr.
