International giving prepaid credit cards to truck buyers

To offset rising fuel prices, International Truck and Engine is offering $1,000 prepaid credit cards to those who order certain trucks before October 31.

Customers who purchase a 2004, 2005 or 2006 model International 4200, 4300 or 4400 truck will get a prepaid MasterCard they can use to buy diesel fuel. International will add $250 to the cards of buyers within the 48 contiguous states who finance with Navistar Financial. The offer is limited to five units per customer.

“International recognizes that the high price of diesel fuel significantly impacts its customers’ bottom line,” said Mike Elwell, marketing director for the company. “With this promotion, International hopes to alleviate some of the financial burden that its customers are facing, while continuing to deliver top-quality trucks with outstanding service.”

Spokeswoman Kristen McCarthy said the card is mailed to the customer after the truck purchase.

National diesel fuel prices were averaging $2.60 per gallon Aug. 26, according to ProMiles, a company that bases its estimates on credit transactions at more than 8,000 truck stops across the country. The average cost per gallon last August was $1.81.
