Terramite celebrates compact backhoe milestone

Terramite is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the introduction of its first compact backhoe loader, which was about one-third the size of similar machines available in 1965.

K.G. Cunningham, founder of Terramite, designed and built a mini-backhoe as an attachment for a Gravely tractor two years earlier. Although a success with cemeteries and contractors looking for a small machine, the company soon realized there was a greater need for a compact backhoe. Terramite introduced the Model 1 to fill that need.
