UAW rejects two of three contracts with Volvo Trucks North America

Volvo Trucks North America announced Feb. 14 that employees represented by the United Auto Workers union rejected two of three tentative labor agreements covering approximately 2,800 employees at the company’s New River Valley, Va., plant. Volvo Trucks and the union have agreed the plant will continue to operate under the terms of the agreement that expired Feb. 1. Negotiations on new contracts continue. Union workers rejected a “universal” agreement covering issues common to both salaried and hourly employees and an agreement covering only hourly workers. They approved an agreement covering the plant’s 190 salaried workers. Negotiations began Dec. 6, and the negotiating teams reached tentative agreements Feb. 1.
