Excavator upgrade brings more horsepower, hydraulic pressure and breakout force

Putting a new Tier 3-compliant Cat C13 ACERT engine in the Caterpillar 345C L hydraulic excavator boosts horsepower 7.5 percent over the 345B Series II model it replaces. The extra horses give the new machine increased hydraulic system pressure and greater breakout force for better productivity. The excavator weighs about 97,700 pounds in the fixed gauge configuration and 101,000 pounds in the wider, variable gauge track version. The standard bucket holds 2.48 cubic yards and maximum dig depth is 27 feet 11 inches. Along with the new power plant, the 345C L gets an improved cab interior with better sightlines to the work, low-effort pedals and controls and an air-suspension seat with adjustable armrests.
